Parkeon’s solar powered machines save enough electricity to run one Manchester home for eight months

Leading parking solutions provider Parkeon highlights the revolutionary solar powered infrastructure that is helping to reduce Manchester’s carbon footprint at the Manchester Central industry trade show, Parkex, on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th April 2008.

Parkeon, global leader in parking solutions, has today released stats that reveal how its solar powered on-street pay and display (P&D) terminals, which are located throughout Manchester, are saving tonnes of carbon emissions every year.

Unlike the majority of parking solutions manufacturers, Parkeon lead with solar power as the preferred option for the P&D terminals, and an impressive 95% of their machines in the UK use solar power.

With more than 190 P&D machines using the renewable energy in Manchester alone, Parkeon’s impact on the environment is considerable.  These impressive statistics show just how easy it is to be green at a time when environmental sustainability has never been higher on the agenda:

  • The amount of CO2 emissions saved through the use of Parkeon’s solar powered P&D terminals in Manchester compared to mains operated machines is a shocking 1.49 tonnes in a year
  • That is enough electricity to power an average Manchester home for more than eight months
  • The total CO2 saved in one year by using Parkeon terminals is equivalent to the amount of CO2 emitted running three televisions nonstop for a year or a computer plus its monitor non stop for 7702 hours

Contributing to Parkeon’s impressive environmental credentials is the long life span of their terminals, which on average last up to 10 years and even longer, while they cause little disruption when installed and save the cost of running cabling to machines.
