Wayfarer wins multi-million pound Midlands contract
Wayfarer Transit Systems has won a multi-million pound contract to transform bus ticketing systems across the West Midlands.
Centro, the West Midlands passenger transport authority, has specified
Wayfarer as its key partner in delivering latest generation ticket machines and
associated back office technologies to over 30 operators across the region.
At the heart of the agreement is the TGX200 driver console - part of
Wayfarer’s revolutionary e-Bus family, a breakthrough architecture that drives
and integrates the cocktail of systems and applications featured on modern
buses.
The Centro deal will see the installation of over 2,300 TGX200 machines
and represents a key building block in the Authority’s drive to deliver one of
the most advanced integrated public transport networks in the UK. The investment
will enable bus operators to benefit from advances in the ITSO standard, which
underpins the National Concessionary Travel Scheme in England and in similar
programmes in Scotland and Wales.
Commenting on this investment in next generation ticketing technology,
Centro Chief Executive Geoff Inskip said: “It is our mission is provide the
people of the West Midlands with a world class integrated public transport
system – and that means ensuring that we have ticketing technology in place that
can help us turn this vision into reality.
“Wayfarer’s e-Bus architecture will ensure that our local bus operators
benefit from one of the most advanced on-vehicle systems in the world, enabling
them to integrate the ticketing function with a host of other third party
technologies, such as Real Time Passenger Information.”
