Advantages of Pay & Display
- Simple and quick operation by motorist. Just "pay, place receipt on dash, and go."
- No need for City to paint and maintain lines and space numbers on the street or have signs for each space. This means lower maintenance costs for the City.
- With no lines on the street, the size of the cars that park on a block dictates the number of cars that can park in a given blockface, rather than the number of drawn spaces on the block, which must be drawn to accommodate the largest size cars on the market. In our experience, this usually allows for 10%-20% more cars to park in the same linear space. This leads to an increase in motorist satisfaction and to increased revenues.
- Parking revenues can continue to be collected even in severe weather (snow/ice) that would obscure the lines and space numbers needed in a Pay-by-Space situation.
- Easy to enforce without needing wireless handheld devices. Parking Enforcement Officers just need to read the ticket on the dashboard to know if a car is in compliance or not.
- Customer could use a valid ticket anywhere in the meter district if the City wishes to set it up this way.
- A "side benefit" to Pay & Display is that because the enforcement officer has to look at each vehicle, he/she is more apt to find issues with the vehicle that someone just visiting the meter and a space in potential violation would not necessarily see.
