The 'MyWay' electronic ticketing scheme has just been unveiled across the Australian Capital Territory with Parkeon providing 500 latest generation Wayfarer200 on-vehicle bus driver consoles, 900 Axio smartcard validators, and back office management suites. The equipment is installed on the city's ACTION bus fleet and in other public locations, ensuring that the new MyWay smartcards are easy to obtain.
The technology is being supplied through Parkeon Pty Ltd, the recently-established Sydney-based arm of the Parkeon Group, to Downer EDI in Australia, the company's long term local partner.
"This latest roll-out comes on the back of similar success in Perth and more recently the appointment of Parkeon within the consortium developing the new ticketing system in Sydney and confirms the market leadership of Parkeon in Australia," says Dave Thompson, Parkeon Pty Director. "Parkeon (Wayfarer) equipment was also specified on the predecessor scheme, so it is particularly pleasing to be implementing the replacement ticketing system and back office services for ACTION buses."
Canberra's 'MyWay' has been developed to meet the city's requirement for a transport ticketing system that is more flexible, that enhances efficiency through improved boarding times and improves data collection, fare reconciliation and journey trend analysis.
Passengers can use the BPAY and auto load (direct debit) options to "set and forget" meaning they no longer need to go and buy tickets. The card will save boarding times with the transaction taking less than a second. The MyWay system will also collect valuable trip data to allow ACTION to deliver an improved bus network in the future.
The new scheme includes Parkeon's comprehensive suite of Back Office software that delivers:
• Schedule adherence reconciliation and reporting using captured GPS information
• Smart card tracking and management
• Comprehensive 'hot-listing' facilities for lost and stolen cards
• Asset tracking and management – a fully comprehensive inventory package
• Revenue and statistical management information reporting package
